toledo, oh: lost highway
a short play-by-play of our night: we set out at 8pm, make it to chicago, spin ourselves ‘roud its loop, emerge on the other side, stop in gary for gas, get called “englebert and humperdink” by a passerby when we go to get our receipt, see an accident taking up the road, ten miles farther see an overturned semi blocking our exit, take an alternate route, see a twitching/just-hit animal (maybe a fox) on the side of the road, ten miles farther see a large bloodstain covering the road which leads to a disembowled deer on the shoulder, drive through irrigation sprinklers that had mistakenly been pointed at the interstate, run out of gas again and see the needle drop below ‘e’ just as we pull up to an almost-unbelievable service station in the middle of nowhere, and then get attacked by a dog at breakfast.
states covered: wisconsin, illinois, indiana, ohio.
